“I believe that I shall see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. Wait for the Lord; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the Lord!”
If you look around in your life it won’t take you too long to struggle to see something in today’s culture, that struggle? We struggle to see Hope. We are ruled by our schedules, our desires to the next big thing, some sense of identity and so much more. Hope however is the one thing at times in our lives where we struggle.
Why is that?
There is a quote by Ralph Waldo Emerson that has always troubled me and at the same time it fascinates me. The quote goes like this:
What lies behind you and what lies in front of you pales in comparison to what lies in front of you. -Ralph Waldo Emerson
We, are traumatized by our past and can’t wait to get to our future. We are so worried that we are never going to measure up to what expectations we find ourselves in. Some people think its because we expect unreasonable results from ourselves and other blame that one others and essentially on culture. In truth it’s more than likely a combination of the two, but all of this is completely ignoring what lies within us.
The Hebrew word (“wait”) could also be translated as “hope.” Hope for the Lord; be strong, and let your heart take courage; hope for the Lord. When we hope for God we are actively engaging in the community of the God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit and more importantly we are leaning on God’s strength and His will, not our own.
Let us see what is now, in us, let us see God and in that seeing let us know completely, whole heartedly that we are not alone.
Hope for the Lord; be strong, and let your heart take courage; hope for the Lord.
